Brent Carlston, 66, of Des Moines, died peacefully at home on September 4, 2017. He lost an eight year battle with Lewy Body Dementia, but is now whole again and at home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
A visitation will be held at Westover Funeral Chapel on September 7, 2017, from 5 - 7 pm. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017, at 11 am at Cottage Grove Church at 1050 24th Street in Des Moines.

Brent was born June 1, 1951, in Des Moines to Russ and Jean Carlston. He attended Grandview College and Drake University, and enjoyed a 40-year career in the telecommunications industry. He and his wife Barb were married in 1976. They lived in Cedar Rapids, IA, and Omaha, NE, before returning to Des Moines in 1989.

Brent loved and served his God, his family, and others. He was a consummate handyman, always ready with tool in hand to fix anything for anyone. He enjoyed woodworking, building many heirloom pieces for family members. Soft-spoken and a true gentleman, his dry wit would sneak up on you when you least expected it.

He was one of the founders of Omaha Christian Academy and served on the board. He later served on the board of Des Moines Christian School. Brent was a charter member of Cottage Grove Church.

Brent is survived by his wife Barb; daughters, Emily (Josh) Hulling, and Katie (Chris) Saldanha; 7 wonderful grandchildren; his mother Jean; nieces Michelle and Janelle Wolfe; nephews Scott and Eric Wolfe, all of Des Moines; and his cousin, Jody Cosson of New Braunfels, TX. He was preceded in death by his father, Russ, and his sister, Cindy Wolfe.

Memorial contributions can be made to Cottage Grove Church.
