The Life of Robert William Jordan

Robert “Bob” William Jordan
July 21,1945–August 9, 2017
WILMINGTON, NC

Robert Jordan passed away at age 72 in Wilmington, North Carolina, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia.

Robert was born in Abington, PA, to the late John Woolf Jordan II and Martha Strank Jordan. Robert spent his childhood and early adult years in Glenside, Pennsylvania, and was a graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School. After graduation, Robert was persuaded to enlist in the US Army by his brother John, much to his mother’s objection. Robert spent part of his time stationed in Italy and always spoke fondly of his time there.

Upon his discharge from the Army, Robert attended Montgomery County Community College, where he met the love of his life, Pamela Helen Parola. Robert and Pamela were married February 22, 1969.  Robert and Pamela resided in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, with their two children Elizabeth Anne and Robert William Jordan Jr. Robert was employed with the family business, Para-Chem, Inc., and worked for the Philadelphia branch of the company until 1981. Robert relocated with his family to Simpsonville, South Carolina, in 1981 to continue working with Para-Chem, Inc. (Southern).

After retiring from Para-Chem, Robert moved to North Carolina to live by the coast. Robert loved the ocean, beaches, boats and, most of all, fishing. While residing in Wilmington, NC, Robert enjoyed volunteering his time at the soup kitchen 2–3 days a week and took extraordinary pride in living in a military community in Holly Ridge, NC.

Robert enjoyed socializing with his friends and family and had many memorable gatherings at his home in Simpsonville. Robert loved to cook, eat and drink, as well as good times with his friends and family.  Robert also loved to tell stories from his childhood and took great glee in telling “the best one ever,” which involved tricking his children not to snoop in the house for Christmas gifts he had hidden.

Robert is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth J. and Michael R. Blevins, his son and daughter-in-law, Robert William Jordan Jr. and Meghan L. Jordan, grandchildren Maya J. Blevins, William E. Jordan and Oakleigh M. Jordan, his brother John Woolf Jordan III (Lynn), sister Susan Mauro Jordan, niece Marnie J. Wrona and nephews Peter Lewis and J.W. Jordan. Robert was predeceased by his wife Pamela Parola Jordan on December 8, 1984, and his nephew Glen C. Lewis in 2016.

A visitation will be held Thursday August 17, 2017, from 6PM–8PM in the chapel at West Laurel Hill Funeral Home, Inc., Bala Cynwyd, PA. A funeral mass will be held on Friday August 18, 2017, at 10:30AM at Epiphany of Our Lord Church in Plymouth Meeting, PA.
