The Life of Chlorita Barousse

A Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church for Mrs. Chlorita Barousse, 90, who passed away on August 11, 2017.

Father Steve Leblanc, Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral service.

Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Chlorita, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late David Guidry and the former Albertine David. Mrs. Chlorita began her career as a nurse before meeting the love of her life at a friend''s wedding in 1946. She and Roy Barousse were married three months after their courtship began. Lt. Col. Roy A. Barousse was commissioned as an Officer of the Air Force and was deployed to numerous assignment throughout the world. Whether accompanying her husband on assignment or remaining stateside to care for their children, she always provided a secure and loving home for her family.

She was an amazing cook, talented seamstress, and devout Catholic. Upon return to Lafayette in 1970, she and her family became parishioners of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She was a woman of strong faith and the glue that held the family together.

She is survived by her children, Michael Barousse, Philip Barousse and wife Melanie, Patrick Barousse and wife Darylin, Gerald "Jerry" Barousse and wife Shannon, and Christine Barousse Carlson; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 1 great, great grandchild on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Lt. Col. Roy A. Barousse; parents; and 8 siblings.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A Rosary will be recited by the Knights of Columbus at 6:00pm on Sunday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue on Monday from 8:00AM until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be Steven Barousse, Adam Barousse, Christopher Barousse, Jake Barousse, William Carlson and David Carlson.

The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Perez and Dr. Yazdi, the staff of Kidney Care of Acadiana, her Home Instead caregivers and Acadian Hospice and Palliative Care for their care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, donation in Mrs. Barousse''s honor can be made to Shiners Hospitals for Children, 3100 Samford Ave, Shreveport, LA 71103; St. Jude Childrens Hopital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105; and The Desormeaux Foundation, 1331 Jefferson Street, Lafayette, La. 70501.

Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA is in charge of funeral arrangements.
