(June 11, 1922 - July 23, 2017)

Marjorie Bernice Treadwell Rice, at ninety-five years of age, departed this life on Sunday, July 23, 2017. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 11, 1922 to the late George and Martha Treadwell.

She was next to the youngest child in a loving family of two sisters and two brothers, all preceding her in death. She gave her life to Christ at an early age at Jones Tabernacle AME Church and has been a long – standing member of Calvary – St. Augustine Episcopal Church.

Marjorie was educated in the Philadelphia School System and graduated from Philadelphia High School for Girls with distinction in 1939. She then married the late Woodrow W. Rice in 1940 and from their union. They had two children Shirley Jean Edward Joseph.

After thirty-eight years of service in government, Marjorie retired in April 1978 from the Social Security Administration. After her retirement, she remained active, devoting her time to her various interest which included volunteering for the American Red Cross and participating in Toastmasters International.

She was an avid television watcher , her favorite shows including Gunsmoke, Jeopardy, MSNBC and Wheel of Fortune. She was thoughtful, caring, remembered birthdays and had a very detailed memory.

She was preceded in death by her sister Shirley Woods.

Marjorie leaves to cherish her loving memory, her son, Edward; six grandchildren, Charles, Tracey, Michael, Robert, Beth and Bayinnah; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; nephew, Bobby; nieces, Judy, Sydella, Ruby and Faye; along with a host other relatives and friends.
