The Life of Marian B. Saling
Marian Broomall Saling, 92, of Discovery Village at Naples, passed away on June 15, 2017.
Marian was born in East Lansdowne, PA, and graduated in the Class of ’42
from Lansdowne High. She raised her family in PA and Potomac, MD. She
was a lifelong homemaker, even after her husband, Al, retired from Ford
Motor Company. They enjoyed a long retirement together, owning two
different motor homes and traveling frequently to the NJ shore and many
other places. After spending their early retirement at Lake of the Woods
in Fredericksburg, VA, they lived for many years at Royal Wood in
Naples. Marian was one of the Royal Wood “Originals,” a group that grew
out of Al’s idea. Marian enjoyed golf, bridge, reading, and above all,
socializing. She treasured the many friends she made everywhere she
lived, and she was always ready for a party.
Marian is survived by children John (Linda) Saling; Stephen (Karen)
Saling; and Margie (Ralph) Fretz; grandchildren Cynthia (Ryan) Keener,
David B. Saling, Anna and Marci Saling, Brooke, Brendan, and Colin
Keffner; and great-grandchildren, Ben and Drew Keener. In 2013, she was
preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Gustav Albert
Saling, whom she often called “Gussie.” Her parents Earl L. and Margaret
Smyrl Broomall; brother, George Broomall; and son-in-law Albert Keffner
also preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017, 2:00 PM at
Discovery Village, 8417 Sierra Meadows Boulevard, Naples, with light
refreshments to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Saling’s name may be
made to the Wounded Veterans Relief Fund, Lake Park, Florida; or the
Dayspring Christian Academy, Mountville, PA; or to the charity of the
donor’s choice.
