The Life of DOROTHY MAY JOHNSON

Dorothy Johnson was born May 5, 1922, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford and Martha Deerr. She passed away at the Urbandale Health Care Center on June 11, 2017, at the age of 95.

Dorothy went to work at the Ordnance Plant before marrying the love of her life, Clarence “Pat” Johnson, on April 21, 1945. She then became a homemaker, devoting her time and talents to the home and her family.

Dorothy and Clarence loved vegetable gardening and selling the produce from the front of their home. She also enjoyed fishing and spending time with her family.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Sandra (Paul) Anthofer, Diane (Gary) Wadle, Barbara (Roger) Lowe, David (Susan) Johnson, and Jeffrey (Becky) Johnson; 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; as well as her sister, Helen Lawson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pat; one sister and one brother; as well as a grandson, Bob.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2017, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in loving memory of Dorothy.
