The Life of SUSAN FAYANN PLOEGER

Susan Fayann Ploeger escaped the surly bonds of this earth to triumphantly claim her home in heaven on Tuesday, May 30, 2017.

Susan Fayann Ploeger came into the world October 5, 1967. She attended elementary and high school in Ankeny and went on to further her education at Iowa State University. In her early years as a toddler, she was easily entertained and good-natured; then as a teenager, loved spending time with her friends enjoying pool parties and softball in the summer and playing basketball in the fall. She also loved the outdoors and could be found fishing or hunting with her dad and brothers any time she had the opportunity to do so.

Without a doubt, Sue cherished time spent with her family more than anything else in this world. This was followed closely by spending time with her various animals which over the years included many cats, dogs and a few horses.

Sue''s personality was such that throughout her entire life, she demanded little and gave everything she had to give to her friends and family. The story of her life stands as a testament to her strong Christian Faith and her unselfish care for anyone in need.

For those who knew Sue, she valiantly fought mental illness for most of her life. A strong advocate for mental health legislation, Sue organized the first support group over 20 years ago for people with similar battles. This group still meets today at Iowa Lutheran Hospital.

Sue will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Doris Ploeger and infant big sister, Brenda Lee Ploeger. Those mourning the loss of this strong soul are her beloved father Sherman Ploeger and step-mother, Sheila, her three siblings; Greg Ploeger, Gordon (Dawn) Ploeger and Ann (John) Petersen. She dearly loved her three nieces and nephew; Ashley (Tyler) Lentz, BreAnna Ploeger, Rachel Petersen and Gabe Ploeger. Some of her happiest years were spent sharing her life united in marriage to Jim Montognese, who remains a much loved member of the Ploeger family.

A celebration of Susan''s life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 9, 2017, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny with visitation starting at 1 p.m.
