The Life of Deborah Jeanne Kellogg

Deborah Jeanne Kellogg - A native of Lafayette and long-time resident of Baton Rouge and Zachary, passed away Friday, May 5, 2017, just two days prior to her 71st birthday. A gifted educator, Debbie taught multiple generations of children during her 47-year teaching career in Houston, East Baton Rouge Parish and Zachary. While she may have never given birth, she had many children. Every student she taught became her child and her ten nieces and nephew had her heart from the moment they were born.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Virginia Kellogg, brothers, Dirk and Dwayne Kellogg; grandparents Charles & Lidney Kellogg and Baker & Helen Turner; brother-in-law Cliff Soward.

She is survived by sisters, Diana Soward, Dawn (Ian) Kinsella and Dru (Dennis)Talbot of Lafayette. Nieces, Aundria (Marty) Cannon, Melanie Tarver, Rashelle Upadhyay, Traci (Michael) Phillips, Stephanie (Kevin) Hanks, Staci Talbot (Jonathan LeBlanc), Natalie Soward, Jessica Riddle, Sarah (Kris) Parham, Sheri “Jeanne” Talbot. Nephew: Brian (Lori) Hebert and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Debbie fought, with valiant effort, against the devastating effects of ALS. She was not alone in the battle; she was supported daily by a loving community of friends and her niece, Traci, who made it possible for her to maintain her independence and remain in her home. She was blessed with many friends, who were, likewise, blessed to have her in their life.
