Florence Blake Ford

AGE: 93 • Wilmington, Delaware

Florence Elizabeth (Blake) Ford, 93, formerly of Yardley, PA and West Philadelphia, met her Lord March 3, 2017, surrounded by love and family. Born in Philadelphia, she resided in Wilmington, DE the last 34 years.

Florence was pre-deceased by her husband of 57 years, Charles Wesley Ford. She is survived by Wendie (Robert) Pelletier, Thomas (Carol) Ford, grandsons Thomas Jr. (Sarah) Ford, Lt. Brian (Babi) Ford and great-grandson Thomas Wyatt Ford.

A graduate of West Philadelphia High School, she answered the call to become a WWII Cadet Nurse and became a registered nurse. She obtained a BS in Nursing at Trenton State, and then went on to be one of the first graduates of the Rutgers University, 'School Nurse' Practitioner program. She worked with emotionally and physically challenged children, was the nurse in Trenton High School in the 60's, then after earning her NP degree, helped establish the Follow Through Program for the Trenton, NJ school system, continuing until disability forced early retirement.

She volunteered at Wilmington Hospital, participated in local MS groups, played hand bells and participated in church organizations. She stayed involved and strong in faith.

The family thanks those at The Kutz Home who have lovingly cared for her these last 8 years as well as those in her church so supportive during her extended time of need.

Florence fought the good fight against the physical afflictions of MS for more than sixty five years. She maintained a positive spirit and a calm gentle strength in the face of daunting physical challenges, always concerned for others, proud of her Welsh and English heritage, loved to sing, and held a curiosity for life around her; always maintaining that her life be a positive reflection of her faith grounded in her precious Lord.
