The Life of Charles Wesley Ford

WILMINGTON, DE -- Charles Wesley Ford, 81, formerly of Yardley, PA and West Philadelphia, PA died Wednesday at home. Born in Philadelphia, he lived in Wilmington for 23 years.

A graduate of Bartram High School class of 1942 and Drexel University, Business Administration 1948, he was comptroller at the University of Delaware, Princeton University and Dynelectron Corp, Hydrocarbon Research. Recently he operated an accounting firm in New Castle County, DE that provided services to Jr. Achievement of Delaware and Claymont Community Center among others.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, retiring at the rank of Captain, he served in New Guinea, the Solomon Sea advance, and the Philippines. His company was the recipient of the Presidential Unit Citation. As a congregant of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Wilmington, DE, he served as a trustee and was a dedicated volunteer at Wilmington Hospital. He had formerly been treasurer of Wharton Memorial Church, Philadelphia, a trustee of the First Presbyterian Church, Morrisville, PA, a member of the Pennsbury School Board, Fairless Hills, PA, Supervisor Lower Makefield Township, PA, and committee member of Morrisville, PA Boy Scout Troop 3.

He is survived by his friend of 68 years and wife of 57 years, Florence Blake Ford; daughter, Wendie Ford of Wilmington, DE; son, Thomas Ford and Carol Fontaine of Franklin, CT; and grandsons, Thomas Jr. and Brian Ford of Houston, TX.

He was a loving individual who gave extraordinary, dedicated support to his MS afflicted wife the past 25 years. His greatest joys were being with Florence, following the growth of his grandsons, and keeping up to date with his numerous friends. He was generous to many and asked little of others.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Naamans and 1120 Darley Roads, Wilmington, DE.

Interment will be private.
