The Life of Dwight Warren Speaker Sr.

Dwight W. Speaker, Sr., 86, of Ocean City, NJ, formerly of Wallingford, Pa., died on August 22, 2014.

Born in Sharon Hill, Pa he was a football star at Sharon Hill High School and later at Friend's Central. He graduated from Gettysburg College in 1951 where he competed in both football and track and field.

A two-time winner of the Maxwell Club award, he was inducted into the Gettysburg College Football Hall of Fame in 1985. As a collegiate sprinter, he was never beaten in dual meet competition in the 100, 200 and the long jump.

A career entrepreneur, he owned and operated Brewer's Outlet, a successful beer distributor in Woodlyn, PA. He was an "old school" businessman, a handshake was all that was ever needed to get a job done. Tremendously generous and loyal, Dwight never hesitated to put others' needs before his own. Dwight and his wife Sally retired to Ocean City, NJ, a place where they shared many wonderful memories.

An avid fisherman, lover of classic movies and music, and devoted Philadelphia sports fan, Dwight was above all a loving husband, caring father, and wonderful "Pop-Pop".

He is survived by his wife of 62 yrs, Sally Folger Speaker, sons Dwight (Kathleen) Speaker, Richard (Paulette) Speaker, daughter Cynthia (Robert) Reich, 6 grandchildren (Ryan, Caitlin, Casie, Jason, Dixon, and Tyler), and 2 great-grandchildren (Harrison and Asher).
