Later, Mike joined his father in the family business and became the 3rd generation to work for the North Hill Marble and Granite Company. After bringing the 4th generation into the business, Mike retired as President of the company. For those who knew Mike, his family, friends, and faith were central to his life. Kids'' events, Greenwood Gang barbecues, hunting or fishing trips, and his meetings with Bob were intertwined. He served on the IBH Board, worked with the Boys'' Town of Italy, and helped many organizations and individuals humbly through the years. He loved people though he never felt at total ease among them. He found solace in his solitude. He looked forward to his yearly retreats and simple hikes through the woods and hills of Southern Ohio.
