The Life of CAROL MAURINE CARLSON
Carol Maurine Carlson, 78, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm, Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Iles Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel in Madrid. Funeral Services will be held at 10am, Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at St. Paul''s United Church of Christ in Madrid. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Carol was born April 22, 1938 in Clarion, Iowa, the daughter of William and Lura Rout. She grew up on the family farm, south of Dows, Iowa and graduated from Dows High School in 1956. On June 8, 1958, she was united in marriage to Gary R. Carlson in Dows at the United Methodist Church. They moved to Madrid in 1969.
Carol was a long-time member of St. Paul''s United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a swimming instructor, served on the library board and worked as a secretary for Anderson Insurance. She enjoyed ceramics, gardening, cake decorating and exercising. She loved spending time with her family.
Carol is survived by her husband, Gary Carlson of Madrid; children, Ken (Nancy) Carlson of Ankeny, IA, Chris (Wendy) Carlson of Roxboro, NC, Curt (Sue) Carlson of Ames, IA and Cameron Carlson of rural Colo, IA; 8 grandchildren, Vanita, David, Tina, Derek, Spencer, Chase, Cheyenne and Megan; 1 great grandson, Noah; siblings, Darrell (Fran) Rout of Cambridge, IA, Dewayne (Wanda) Rout of Springfield, MO, Phyllis (George) Collison of Houston, TX and Roger Rout of Dows, IA; sister-in-law, Arlyce Rout of Boone, IA and brother-in-law, Jack Mathews of Montgomery, AL; as well as nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; stillborn son, Gary, Jr.; brother, Bill Rout and sister, Margaret Mathews.
