Funeral Program - Obituary

John Lewis Lattimore, born to Margaret G. Cartwright and Marion J. Lattimore Friday, February 24, 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri in a time of racism and segregation…. “Bogie”, as he was fondly known, and his brother, Allen Lattimore, found themselves with their back against the wall in an environment that would create two forces to be reasoned with. From the time they had to take it in the allies of Kansas City, Missouri … to Golden Globe Champ in Boxing tournaments which took Bogie through a national tour... Bogie, understanding “the bigger they come, the harder they fall”. Perhaps a controversial point of view but it was the way he lived his life… After his career ended in boxing, he reached out for something more, something bigger. Because he was fast and light, you would soon hear an announcer calling his name from the booth of horse racing events...Johnny Lattimore (jockey). Every obstacle, he bulldozed through it with his head held high…Perseverance, Johnny “Boogie” Lattimore…with an 8th grade education…(Diesel Mechanic); Palmentere Bros. Cartage Service…He retires...Now, it’s just him and God they are the closest... praying day and night… John Lewis Lattimore “Bogie” joined his mother, father, brother, and sister Margaret Waters in the heavenly kingdom Friday, March 17, 2017. He was proudest of his sons Mark Anthony Davis and Darryl Dwayne Davis; granddaughters- Jessica, Hannah, Leah, and Rebecca; great-grandsons- Josiah and Quinlan, his significant other Rosenda Gladney as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews (greats and great greats). He had a way about him that all will remember. The words of God give the light which lights life’s journey, you can’t control the length of your life, but you can control its breadth, depth and height... “The years of our life are seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow; for they quickly pass, they are soon gone, and we fly away”... Psalms 90:10. (A prayer Boogie had hanging in his prayer room) Father in heaven hear my prayer. Keep me in thy loving care, Be my guide in all I do, Bless all those who love me too. We, the family of John L. Lattimore, would like to convey our heartfelt appreciation for your support of love, warmth, concerns, and oneness with us which has lifted our hearts and spirit. The blessings of your prayers, verbal and written expressions, and all other acts of kindness will forever be with us. May God richly bless each of you all, both now and always! -The Family
