The Life of EDNA MAE BREESE

Edna Breese, 81 of Montezuma passed away Sunday afternoon, March 19, 2017 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma at 11:00 am with a luncheon following. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at the Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines at 2:30 pm.

Edna Mae Breese, the daughter of Basil and Harriett (Hervey) Buckalew, was born on June 7, 1935 in Williamson, Iowa. She was a 1955 graduate of Chariton High School. On March 18, 1955, Edna was united in marriage to Edwin "Ed" Breese in Runnells, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Sheri, Doug and Tom. Ed and Edna owned and operated Breese Imported Parts in Des Moines, where she was the bookkeeper. They expanded the business to Davenport which they operated for a few years. They purchased a home at Lake Ponderosa in 1975. Following Ed''s death in 1983, Edna sold the business and worked for Don Fisher Accounting in Des Moines. She lived in Colorado for a few years before moving back to Montezuma and purchasing the Montezuma Dairy King in 1990 and the Sign In Motel a couple years later owning and operating them together. She also owned Family Video in Montezuma for a short time. Most recently, Edna worked for Wilcox All Pro Tools for 17 years before recently retiring on December 23, 2016. Family was very important to Edna and she truly cherished the time she was able to spend with them. She loved her Saturday morning breakfasts, time at the lake, going to the casino and caring for her grand pups.

She is survived by her children, Sheri (Jeff) Greenhalgh of Oskaloosa, Doug Breese of Mount Pleasant and Tom (Lorraine) Breese of Montezuma; ten grandchildren, Nikki (Erik) Kriegel, Sean (Alaina Heng) Taylor, Macy (Kyle Haynes) Taylor, Jesse (Holly) Greenhalgh, Bill Goodman, Jeremy (Joni) Breese, Josh Breese, Ciara (Lucas Motta) Breese, Dustin (Monica Bender) Breese and Aly (Chad Demaray) Breese; eight great grandchildren with one on the way, Beckett, Boede, Blakely, Rowyn, Rockston, Chase, Kinsley and Addy, seven siblings, Paul (Jenny) Buckalew, Clyde (Bev) Buckalew, Zella Horney, Alice Day, Carolyn (Bobby) Roush, Betty Mathias and Larry (Pat) Buckalew as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Edna is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ed Breese, her brothers John Buckalew, and Laverne (Edith) Buckalew, brothers in law Dewayne Horney, Emil Day and Don Mathias.
