The Life of Dr. Alphonse DeBlanc Landry

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Dr. Alphonse DeBlanc Landry, 82, who passed away on March 17, 2017.

Reverend Chester Arceneaux, Rector of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will be Celebrant of the Mass.

Burial will take place in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery.

Dr. Landry attended St. Peter’s Catholic School in New Iberia. He graduated from Southwest Louisiana Institute and LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. Following Medical School, Dr. Al joined the United States Public Health Service and retired after 21 years then became Chief of OB/GYN at University Medical Center and retired after 20 years. After retirement he gave orientation lectures to medical students rotating through UMC until 2016. Besides being a medical doctor he was also a musician and artist.

Dr. Alphonse, a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Alphonse Landry and the former Genevieve Grevemberg.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan Rochel Landry; one daughter, Margaret "Jenny" Landry George and husband, Dean; three sons, Edward "Ned" Landry and wife, Lorna Abercrombie, Thomas Landry and wife, Cheryl Boudreaux and David Landry and wife, Amelite Hebert; grandchildren, Jamie Landry Leger and husband, Stephen, Ian, Brice and Jordan Landry, Jeanne Landry, Adrienne Leblanc Wolf, Angela Landry and Abigail Landry; great grandchildren, Robert and Gabrielle Godhigh, Chase Boast and John Landry-Jagneaux; one sister, Margaret “Peggy” Landry Crockett; two brothers, Jean Michel “Fuzz” Landry and wife, Norma and John Gabriel “Gab” Landry and wife Mary.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, John Rochel Landry.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Monday, March 20, 2017 from 4:00PM until 8:00PM. A Rosary will be recited at 7:30PM on Monday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue on Tuesday from 10:00AM until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be Edward, Thomas and David Landry, Dean George, Brice Landry, John Gabriel Landry, Jr., Dr. Leo Landry and Stephen Lege.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Michael Del''aune, Christopher Larue, Greg Landry, Grady Landry and Jacob Landry.

The family requests donations in his memory be made Catholic Services Center or Second Harvest Food Bank.

Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA is in charge of funeral arrangements.
