The Life of Kenneth Alan Leavell

Kenneth "Ken" Alan Leavell, 58, of Overland Park, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on March 2, 2017. He was born on March 16, 1958 to Martin and Mildred (Luvin) Leavell in Kansas City, MO. 

Ken graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1976. While growing up Ken played baseball, participated in Boy Scouts and played in the marching band.

Ken worked for Smith Pressroom Products and traveled the world from the Netherlands to Japan, doing customer service worldwide. He also did electrical engineering and computer programming. 

However, his first love was coaching. He loved sports and children. He coached baseball for 10 years.and girls softball for 18 years. He always brought a sense of humor to the game and was always telling the girls to "Settle down and just have fun." 

Since coaching he has enjoyed playing "Monster" with his 4 grandchildren. 

Ken is survived by his loving wife Mindy; children Kimberly Sue (Jeremiah) Jones, Kathleen Elizabeth; step-children Lauren (Peter), Kelsey (RJ), Makenzie; grandchildren Evelyn Lee, Alice Kay, Riley Jo, and Reese Ellie; brother Michael Edward (Rachel); mother Mildred Frances; sister-in-law Alexandra Elizabeth; nieces Amanda Elizabeth and Mia Frances. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Martin Eugene, and brother, Brian Keith. 

The family will receive guests for a visitation from 3:30-5:30 pm on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home in Olathe.

In lieu of flowers, a fund will be set up for contributions of athletic equipment for girls softball for families in need in Johnson County.
