The Life of Eleanor C McSorley

Eleanor C. McSorley, 93, passed away on Feb. 21, 2017 at home in Media, PA.

She was married to Joseph M. McSorley for 40 years until his death in 1986. She was also the widow of Charles Wakely Campbell, who died in 1945. The daughter of the late William & Gertrude White, she also was pre-deceased by three sisters: Gertrude, Mary & Nancy.

Eleanor was a graduate of St. Leonard’s Academy and attended Rosemont College. After working at Upper Darby High School’s library with the HARP Program, she opened the UDHS Career Center in 1986 and enjoyed working there until she retired in 1998. She was an avid reader and bird watcher.

She will be remembered for her generosity of spirit, the sharing of her home, her friendship, her insatiable curiosity, her many talents (none of which was ridiculous!), her wry sense of humor and her excellent sense of the moment -- witnessed by her comments, which will live in infamy as well as memory.

Eleanor is survived by 11 children, their spouses and partners: Trudy & Joe Breslin, MD; Joann McSorley; Adele McSorley & Keith Louden; Peggy McSorley & Frank DiGiovanni; Tish & Bernie Davis; Joe McSorley & Mary Reaney; Frank McSorley & Selam Muleshuwa; Maryann (Bidi) McSorley, MD & Craig Church; Anne McSorley & Brian Farley; Richard & Liz McSorley; Carol McSorley & Joe Havlick. She had 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and was pre-deceased by two grandchildren: J. Andrew Breslin and Joshua McSorley.

A memorial gathering will be held on April 8 at 2pm-4pm at Lima Estates, 411 N. Middletown Rd., Media, PA, 19026.
