The Life of TRELLIS LORENE JOHANNSEN

Trellis Johannsen, 81, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Taylor House Hospice. She was born September 13, 1935 in Des Moines to Lorene and Guy Nichols.

After raising her children, Trellis began working for the Des Moines Public Schools as an associate at Hoyt Middle School and then North High School. During those years, she was an active member of the DMEA negotiating cadre. After retirement, Trellis enjoyed traveling, reading, playing bridge, and attending her weekly bible study. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her family.

Trellis is survived by her son Tom (Nancy) Johannsen, daughters Caryl (Leigh) Wiley, and Kay Miller (Greg Hartung); 6 grandchildren, Jason McEvoy, Bradley (Sarah) Johannsen, Kara (Brian) Ohorilko, Jonathan Fick, Andrew (Ashley) Wiley, Diana (Justin) Weeks; great-grandchildren, Maxwell, Ivy, Milo Ohorilko; Atticus, Dietrich, Lincoln, Thea Belle Johannsen; Ethan Mundy and Waylon Weeks; step-father, Henry Langheim; sister-in-law, Cathy (Terry) Sharron, and her 6 nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 54 years, Walter Johannsen; brother Gerald Nichols; sister- in -law, Diana (Johannsen) Lingenfelter and brother-in-law, Dr. John Lingenfelter.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Altoona Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1701 8th Street SW, Altoona Iowa. The family will greet friends 1 hour prior to the service.

A special thank you to Unity Point Hospice, Taylor House Hospice, and Pastor Nathan and Pastor Jordan for the care and compassion they showed Trellis during the past several months.

Memorials have been established. Contributions may be made to Unity Point Hospice, Taylor House Hospice or Altoona Lutheran Church of the Cross.
