The Life of ELDON JOHN ENGSTROM
Eldon Engstrom, age 96, passed away on January 10, 2017 at Trinity Center Luther Park in Des Moines.
Eldon was born on September 24, 1920 on the family farm in Pierce Grove, Iowa, near Sheldahl. His parents were Lena (Wallen) and John C. Engstrom. He was
the youngest of four children.
His mother was from Olso, Norway and his father was from Ostergotlund, Sweden. They met while both were working on the farm, of John’s uncle, Otto Engstrom. Eldon met his future bride, Helen Glumac, on a blind date. And were later married on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1942. They were married almost 70 years, before Helen’s passing on November 28, 2011. They had two children, Sharon and Charles.
Eldon helped his parents’ farm as a young man. His work history included; John Deere, Firestone, Polk County and in retirement working part-time at Betts Cadillac doing detailing and car deliveries. He loved cars and driving all of his life.
Eldon leaves behind; daughter, Sharon (Gene) Peterson of Colorado; son Charles (Brenda) Engstrom of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Amy (Byron) Schneider and their children, Amanda, Triston and Samuel of Ankeny, Valerie Engstrom of Des Moines, Mark Peterson and son Miles of Kansas, Jennifer (William) Griffiths and their sons, Drake and Evan of Colorado, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Per Eldon’s wishes, there will be no services. There will be a private interment at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
