Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 4 at Trinity followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, One North 60th Avenue, Des Moines.

Virginia was born July 26, 1925 to Agnes and Ralph Bishop in Des Moines. She was raised in the Oak Park area of Des Moines with her brothers, Jim and Bob Bishop. She graduated from North High School in 1943.

She married the love of her life, Harold Stoermer, on June 8, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church. They made their home in the Beaverdale area where they raised two sons, Stephen and Ronald. Virginia''s passion was her family. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and aunt, always putting the needs of others first and loving unconditionally. She was a 71 year member of Trinity Lutheran Church serving in whatever area needed her. This world will not be the same without her. She impacted the lives of so many with the abundant love she so freely gave.

She was employed by Allied Insurance Company for 38 years as a Personal Lines Underwriter until her retirement in 1990. In 2002 her daughter-in-law asked her to volunteer at West Des Moines Human Services in the food pantry. She eagerly agreed and stayed until 2014, deciding 89 was a good age to retire for good. She left behind so many people who felt blessed to have worked with her and could call her friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; brother, Jim Bishop; and daughter-in-law, Lori. Virginia is survived by her two sons, Stephen (Doris) and Ronald Stoermer; her brother, Robert (Peggy) Bishop and sister-in-law, Teresa Bishop; grandchildren, Stephen Jr. (Amee) Stoermer, Craig Stoermer, Danielle (Chad) Wells, Keith Stoermer, Julie (Dan) Bain, Lindsay (Steve) Forget and Jacob (Betsy) Madsen; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Zackary and Easton Stoermer, Clint, Lillian and Alex Wells, Logan, Jesse and Tommy Bain and Benita and Ashlyn Forget; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the health care staff of Hospice of the Midwest and Edencrest at Green Meadows for the kind and compassionate care provided to our entire family.

In lieu of flowers, Virginia has requested that memorial contributions be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church.
