The Life of LECIA LOGLI JOHNSON

Lecia Logli Johnson, 107, passed away Sunday, November 20 at Mill Pond Care Center. Lee was born in Ankeny in 1909 to Pete and Ottavia Logli. After graduating from Ankeny High School in 1927 she earned a degree from the Thompson School of Beauty Culture in downtown Des Moines and became a hair stylist in the Younkers salon. She met her future husband, Delbert Johnson, in the Younkers cafeteria. He was a medical student at nearby Still Osteopathic College, presently known as Des Moines University. They were married in 1933 by Rev Frederick Weertz . Del''s medical practice led them to Ames and Nevada, Iowa and later to Seattle, where they lived for over 40 years. Following Del''s death, Lee returned to Iowa and lived in Des Moines many years before eventually returning to her home town of Ankeny.

Lee was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters, Anita Birdsall, Clara Struthers and Dora Peterson and her brothers Reco and Richard Logli. Lee is survived by her sister Dena Randolph, 2 sisters-in-law Enes and Virginia Logli and by many nieces, nephews and extended family. Although Lee and Del had no children of their own, they provided love, warmth and guidance to many friends, neighbors and family members.

Lee was blessed with a healthy and vibrant life until her final days this November. She always had a sunny disposition and a smile for everyone. Lee was our special "honey". She always inquired and followed up on everyone''s life and was well informed on world and current events. Lee dearly loved her family, friends, pets and life itself. Her most serious work was alongside Del, in his medical practice, assisting him with patients. They became lifelong friends with many of them. After office hours they enjoyed walks around Lake Washington, their cats and dogs, boating, entertaining, raising chinchillas and breeding champion Chesapeake Bay Retrievers.

Respecting Lee''s wishes, no funeral service was held. Burial of her cremains will take place in the spring of 2017, beside her beloved husband Del, at Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines.

Her family wishes to thank the Mill Pond staff for their kindness and care. A note of remembrance or sympathy is welcomed and can be sent to any family member or PO Box 909 Ankeny, Iowa 50021.
