The Life of MICHAEL WAYNE NEEDLES

Michael W. Needles, 56, passed away from complications of a stroke on Friday, December 2, 2016, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA with his family by his side.

Michael Wayne Needles was born on December 2, 1960 to DeLaine (Eckard) and Harris Needles in Des Moines, IA. Michael was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. He received his associates degree in Diesel Mechanics from Des Moines Area Community College.

Mike developed a love and passion for hunting, fishing, canoeing and trapping at a young age. His father, Harris, shared his love of the outdoors by introducing Mike to hunting and fishing at the age of 9. They participated in a gun safety course together, followed by a big game hunting trip to Wyoming. Through the years he had several animals taxidermied which were always on display at his home.

Throughout his adult life he was employed by Caterpillar, Inc. (CAT), Dekko Tools, and Lowe’s working both inside and outside sales. Mike was exceptionally inclined mechanically. He enjoyed working with his hands and refurbishing power tools.

One of Mike’s favorite pastimes was watching the Iowa Hawkeyes play football. He even followed them to a bowl game in Hawaii.

A great joy in Mike’s life was the birth of his daughter, Mikaela Wren on October 4, 1994. Mikaela is currently studying at Penn State University.

Michael is survived by his daughter, Mikaela Wren Kluver, mother; DeLaine Needles of Des Moines, IA; sister, Rebecca (Larry) Light of Yucaipa, CA; and nephews: Tyler, Andrew and Caleb.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harris Needles, in 2004.
