The Life of MELVIN RONALD FRAKES
Melvin Frakes, 70, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2015. He was born October 1, 1944 to Melvin and Mamie Frakes in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Melvin was an East High graduate. He and Karen were united in marriage on August 15, 1964 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Des Moines and began to raise their two daughters. Melvin retired after many years of service as a pressman for RR Donnelley’s Printing Company. He loved being outdoors, especially fishing with family and friends at Big Creek. Melvin enjoyed watching NASCAR and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen; daughters, Jody (Jeff) Latwesen and Marsha (Floyd) Marzolf; grandchildren, Larissa (Zach) Johnson, Ryan Latwesen, Lindsey Latwesen, Steven (Maria) Marzolf, Michael Marzolf, and Olivea Marzolf; great-grandchildren, Addisyn Johnson, Ryker Johnson, Gracie Johnson, Melanie Latwesen, and Layla Marzolf; siblings, Johnny (Pam) Frakes, Eddie (Vicky) Frakes, and Marie (Jack) Bolio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Lonnie Frakes.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines with a visitation for one hour prior to the service.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Melvin.
