The Life of DONNA LOUISE MIKSELL

Donna L. Miksell, better known to many as “Hydie”, 76, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2016 at her home in Des Moines. Donna was born on April 28, 1940 to George and Edith (Camp) Fleming in Clark County, outside of Osceola.

Donna attended only 2 schools, Troy #7 for grades Kindergarten through 8th grades, then went on to attended Murray Community High School. Troy #7 later became the existing band room. While in high school, Donna’s activities included being a staff member for the school paper, chorus and a class officer. She participated in 2 school plays. For two of her high school years she was a cheerleader for the basketball team.

After graduating in 1958, she moved to Des Moines and worked for an insurance agency. While at the agency she befriended her future mother-in-law, whom she introduced her to her son, Donald. They would marry one month later.

In the coming five years, Don and Donna would have four children; Ricky, Ronald, Donald Jr. and Susan.

Donna was a stay at home mom. Don was working in construction or driving truck. However, she did go back to work, most recently working for American Garage Doors, Inc., where she retired in 2007. She didn’t have many hobbies but did enjoy reading novels by Danielle Steele and Sue Grafton. She also enjoyed watching mysteries on TV, camping, cooking, flowers and gardening. Music was an important part of her life, having over 700 record albums. Bowling was another sport she thoroughly enjoyed and was overly proud of the patch she received from picking up the 4-6-7-10 split.

Donna is survived by her sons, Ricky Miksell, Ron (Peggy) Miksell, and Don Jr. (April) Miksell; daughter, Susan (Gary) Reeves; grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, Steven, Heather and Garth; great-grandchildren, Jade and Corbin; sister, Carol Selsor; brother, Bill (Marilyn) Fleming; and a host of other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Edith Fleming; husband, Donald; and siblings, Marjorie and Nancy.

Special thanks and love to her oldest son, Ricky, for his care giving these past few months and her special friend Barbara Reynolds for all her visits and hand holding sessions. She will never know how much they meant – not to mention the pet therapy from her puppy “Carmen”.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held on prior to service from 10:00 a.m., to 12:00 p.m.
