The Life of LEONE SCRUBY STRAIT
Our beloved Leone "Tootie" Strait passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. Tootie was 103 years old. She was born to Nimrod and Nancy Bell (Walker) Vaughn on January 15, 1913. Tootie spent the majority of her long and very full life in the place of her birth, Des Moines, Iowa.
Tootie''s marriage to Brick Strait, in 1940, took her to Oakland, California during the time of his military service. She shared many fond memories of living in California, fishing in Canada, summer''''s at Clear Lake, yet, Des Moines was always home.
Tootie, a homemaker, was a loving, caring and thoughtful woman who was devoted to her family and friends. She made you laugh, she made you smile, and she made your favorite dessert on your birthday. She will be greatly missed by all.
Tootie was dedicated to raising her two sons and she helped her husband at Strait Pharmacy on E 33rd Street and his coin-op businesses. She was a member of Unity Lutheran Church and the Home Lodge. She loved spending time with her four grandchildren.
Tootie was preceded in death by her husband, Marion "Brick" Strait.
She is survived by her sons, Ralph (Diana) Strait and Jim Strait; her four grandchildren, Randy (Sherry) Strait, Valerie (Rob) Wilson, Josh Strait, Anna Strait; her great grandchildren and many nieces nephews, cousins and friends.
Graveside Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Novemer 19 at Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Ave, Des Moines,
