The Life of James Elmore Silvers Jr

James "Jim" E. Silvers, II, 80, of Overland Park, KS, passed away at home on November 4, 2016. Jim was born August 31, 1936 in Topeka, KS to James E. Silvers and Zeoda Ellen (Lang) Silvers. He was a graduate of Olathe High School in 1954, and went on to earn his Bachelors of Arts degree in Business Administration from Baker University in 1958.

Jim began his career with Hallmark Cards in 1958 moving to Atlanta, GA. He was then employed with the Xerox Corporation from 1964-1968, eventually returning to Olathe where he began working for Will Ross, Inc., selling hospital equipment and supplies. In 1974, Jim established G&S Wholesale in Olathe, in partnership with Gene Green. In 1979, Jim began his own business, Silvers Jewelry, which he operated until his retirement in 2000.

Jim was an active participant in his community, having earned his Eagle Scout award he continued his involvement as a Scoutmaster, membership in the Olathe Noon Rotary Club, (from which he has received numerous Paul Harris Fellow awards), past-president and board member of the Johnson County Old Settlers Association, co-founder and past-president of the Olathe Running Club, and was a founding member and past-president of the Trails West Barbershop Chorus.

Jim was also athletically active having completed 106 triathlons, 3 marathons, and numerous road races, in addition to being an avid downhill skier, and member of the Kansas City Ski Club.

In 1959, Jim was married to Bernita Eileen Smith, and she passed away in 1992.
He then married Rochelle Mills in 1995.

He is survived by his wife, Rochelle, his sons, Donald James Silvers and Steven Scott Silvers, grandchildren Nathanael Silvers, Adam Silvers, Christian Silvers, Eden Silvers, and James Silvers, Morgan and Trey Dowling, Jordan, Cody, Cameron, Ben, Jack, Sam and George Mills. 

Jim was a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church of Stanley church choir.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 10:00am at the Presbyterian Church of Stanley, with visitation to follow. Private burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church Music Department or to the Hospice of Olathe Medical Center.
