Dale was born July 30, 1923 to Charles and Ada (Davis) Paullin, in Cedar Rapids, IA. He attended Marshalltown area schools. Dale might have been small for his age as a young boy, but he always had big plans for stardom. He left high school mid-way through and purchased a railroad ticket to Chicago, his kind of town. There he joined the Henry Kramer’s Hollywood Midgets, working primarily as a singer and tap dancer, and entertaining the war troops. Dale traveled to 48 different states and a few places in Canada. He stuck with the traveling show for 25 years, and eventually played the advertising roles of Lennie Lennox for the furnace manufacturer and as a backup to Phillip Morris'' cigarette boy. In his early years he was a crackerjack salesman and ran an ice cream truck. But the highlight was being asked to audition for a new movie from Warner Brothers. At 28, he landed the starring role in the 1950 film "It''s A Small World," using the stage name Paul Dale. He returned to Marshalltown and worked with Montgomery Ward where he retired. During this time in 1969, he married Mercedes who passed away in 1990. Dale has written a book about his life and his travels titled, “Amazing! Daring!” In 2014, Dale was presented with an honorary diploma from Marshalltown High School.

Dale will be missed by two nieces, Barbara Curtis of Marshalltown, Jan Glew of Wisconsin, and many adoring fans. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mercedes.
