The Life of DOROTHY MARIE YATES
Dorothy Marie Yates (92) of Boone Iowa passed away peacefully on September 13, 2016, at the Boone County Hospital. Funeral Services will be held, Friday September 16, 10:30 AM at Dunn''s Funeral Home.
A family greeting will take place Thursday evening, September 15, 5-7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Dorothy Marie (Jackson) Yates was born in Kansas City, MO on August 10, 1924, the daughter of George and Mellie (Moad) Jackson. On June 28, 1942, Dorothy married Merle Yates from Rockwell City, Iowa which later ended in divorce.
In 1955 she started working at Firestone Tire Company in Des Moines where she retired from in 1985.
After retirement she became involved with the Northside Senior Center where she became president of the 60+ club. She was a member of #310 Union and the United Steelworkers of America.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters and one brother. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Yates and wife, Debra, of Boone, six grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.
In her later years she enjoyed traveling, going to casinos, old John Wayne movies and talking with family at family gatherings.
