The Life of Jessie Lee Lida Levey

Jessie Lee Lide ­Levey, aged 78 of Ansonia, CT beloved wife of Supt. Samuel Levey departed this life on Wednesday August 17th at Griffin Hospital Hospice Care in Derby, CT surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Darlington, SC on May 15, 1938, the daughter of the late Nash Lide and Ruth Williams Lide. She grew up in Darlington, SC, but later moved to Ansonia, CT in 1952. She later met and married the love of her life, Samuel Levey on March 28, 1964. She was employed by Dr. Alan Gordon and Marjorie Gordon whom she loved dearly along with their two children Abraham and Danielle. She joined Williams Temple Church of God in Christ in 1976 under the leadership of the late Bishop Cleveland W. Williams, where she served in various capacities. She faithfully taught a Sunday School class, was a choir member and leader of the AW youth choir, served on the pastor’s aide, was President of the Mother’s Board for 15 years under the leadership of her husband, Pastor Samuel Levey, and counseled the youth and young married couples. She also served as floral committee president for Connecticut 2nd Jurisdiction under the leadership of Bishop Hester D. Bordeaux and Supervisor Mother Gloria Green Frasier for several years. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Supt. Samuel Levey, Pastor of Williams Temple Church of God in Christ, two sons; Ronnie (Ruthie) Levey, and the late Lavern Levey, two special daughters; Nickey Kollie and Aleena Thomas, twelve siblings; Sue Rhodes, predeceased by six brothers Benjamin Lide, Nash Lide, Keith Lide, Wilbert Lide, Lionel Lide, Burnis Lide and predeceased by six sisters Virginia Lide, Aida Bailey, Alice Goodson, Lillie McPhil, Ruth Muldrow, Sylister Robinson all of Darlington SC. Survivors include six sisters­in­law; Katie Lide, Erline Robinson, Clara Levey, Evelyn Webster, Dorothy Baily, District Missionary Esther Jones, six brothers­in­law; Clarence Muldrow, Deacon Richard (Evang. Mary) Levey, Min. Matthew (Laurie) Levey, Frank and James Levey, and Leroy Lancaster. In addition, she leaves behind three granddaughters; Yolanda Silva, Tracy, & Nyree Tinney and three grandsons, Terrance Gattison, Lavern (Ponchie) Hall & Terrell Paige, as well as several great­grandchildren and an abundance of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Williams Temple COGIC ­ 95 Bishop William's Court, Ansonia, CT. Friends may call at church 9:00 a.m. ­ 11:00 a.m. Bishop Hester D. Bordeaux, Prelate CT 2nd Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction COGIC will officiate. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery of Ansonia.
