The Life of Margaret Clifford Burns

Margaret Jane “Peggy” Clifford Burns, 86, peacefully entered into eternal rest on August 9, 2016, at Griffin Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas F. Burns. Mrs. Burns was born in New Haven on Sept. 22, 1929, daughter of the late James and Margaret Gould Clifford. A resident of Ansonia for over 60 years, she had worked as a Registered Nurse at the Hospital of St. Raphael for 40 years, until her retirement. Peggy was an avid reader and enjoyed flower gardening and visits to Nantucket in Cape Cod. She also enjoyed baking and was known for her apple pies. She was happiest when spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by loving sons, Thomas F. Burns (Laura) of Oxford, Clifford J. Burns (Charlene) of Ansonia, Christopher J. Burns of New Haven, Matthew B. Burns (Carolyn) of S. Deerfield, MA and Terrence J. Burns (Carmen) of Ansonia, cherished grandchildren, Tiffany Gherlone (Marc), Christopher and Margaret Vasquez, Thomas Burns (Jessica), Kristin Gholson (Clint) and Jamie, Meaghan and Kyleigh Burns, a brother, James Clifford (Patricia) of West Haven, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and canine companions, Pal and Ginger. She was predeceased by brothers, Harold, Donald and Robert Clifford and a sister, Eleanor Kline. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday August 11, 2016, from 4-7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Friday, her funeral will commence at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at the Church of the Assumption in Ansonia. Interment will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia. Memorial contributions in Peggy’s memory may be made to Assumption Church through the funeral home. To
