The Life of VIVIAN IONE THORPE THOMAS

Vivian Ione Thomas was born November 30, 1913 in Hocking, Iowa the daughter of Edward and Emma Jane (McLeod) Thorpe.

She graduated from Melcher High School. On February 23, 1935 Vivian was united in marriage to John Thomas in Chariton, Iowa. The couple lived primarily in the Melcher-Dallas and Knoxville communities. Vivian worked as the head cook at North Elementary School for many years.

Vivian passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at the Knoxville Rehab Center at the age of 102 years.

In addition to her parents, Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, John; infant son, John Edward; daughter, Carolyne Jane Roush; brother, William Thorpe and sister, Celena Hurr.
Those left to cherish Vivian’s memory include her son Bill Thomas of Knoxville; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

A Memorial Celebration of Life for Vivian Thomas, age 102, of Knoxville will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 23 at the Celebrate Church. Vivian will be buried at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.

Memorials may be made to the Knoxville Fire & Rescue Association or to the Knoxville Rehab Center Activity Fund.
