The Life of James Holmgren

James Roger Holmgren "Stick" Jim "Stick" Holmgren, born October 7, 1934, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 9th, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Holmgren and Thelma Foss. He is survived by his wife, Shirley R. Holmgren; children, Patti Holmgren, Dave (Benay) Holmgren, Terri (Ron) Croghan, Tim (Judy) Jones, Troy (Christine) Holmgren, and Billy (Lori) Holmgren; grandchildren, Jesse McEuen, Vicki McEuen, Rick McEuen, Jimmy Holmgren, Michelle Holmgren, Brad Holmgren, Derek (Collene) Keirns, Mike (Jenny) Keirns, Erin (Ryan) Corbett, Brett Jones, Morgan Jones, Kaiden Holmgren, Nolan Holmgren and Lee Roger Holmgren; and seven great-grandchildren.Stick graduated from Hower High School in 1952. He started working in his late teens hauling ice. He was employed at General Tire from 1955-1982 where he served on the union executive board for over 16 years. He was a great union steward, even filling in as Union President when needed. After retiring from General, he was employed at Metro Transit for 13 years. He coached high school baseball from 1993-2014.Stick was a loving husband, going on 50 years to wife, Shirley. He was a proud and wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved to help people regardless of the circumstance and always made a new friend wherever he was. He was full of charisma, lighting up the room with his smile. He thrived to bring the best out of people. He was the most positive, kind, and loving man that you could ever meet. He was fiercely competitive, playing industrial men''s fast-pitch through the 70s for his Local Union 9, slow-pitch through the 80s and 90s with ProFab at triple D fields in Brimfield, and lastly in the Silver League in Akron.He also thrived in the weight room, training at Barnholth''s, Trunko''s-Mick''s - See more at:
