The Life of FERN EILEEN SIMONSON

Fern Eileen (Christiansen) Simonson passed away on Thursday, June 23rd, 2016 at Carlisle Assisted Living. A Memorial Graveside service will be held on Friday, July 1st, 2016 at 1 p. m. at the Tower Gardens at Highland Memory Gardens. Fern was born October 21, 1923 in Forest City, Iowa to Niels Erik and Esther Phoebe Christiansen. She married Benhart Simonson.

They had 3 children, Brenda (Gary) Szakacs, Monte (Diane) Simonson and Mona (David) Veach. She has 5 Grandchildren, Jennifer (Dan) Clark, Erika (Tyson) Overton, Cherish (Shawn) Nabil, Crystal (Yancy) Tryon and Lacey Simonson. She has 7 Great-Grandchildren, Corbin Clark, Kirsten Clark, Cassie Clark, Riley Markovich, Kamberlyn Clark, Chesney Overton and Violet Tryon. 

She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her brother, Gordon and her husband.

She enjoyed knitting and doing pottery prior to her eyesight failing. She was a huge Nascar fan and Jeff Gordon was her favorite driver. She was always baking cookies, banana bread, poppy seed bread and many other goodies to please her family. She passed her love of baking on to several of her Granddaughters.

She was a member of Lighthouse Community Church and attended regularly until her health started to fail. She loved to attend the Senior dinners that they did on a monthly basis.

She loved spending time with her Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. The Great-Grandchildren called her GG (for Great-Grandma) which is a name she cherished. She was very loving and nurturing to all that knew her, she will truly be missed by many.
