The Life of Jean Sweet Osborn Hubbell
Jean Sweet Hubbell, age 86, of Shelton entered into rest on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Griffin Hospital in Derby,
surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of the late Richard L. Hubbell and is also predeceased by her
devoted first husband, George H. Osborn, Jr.
Mrs. Hubbell was born in Derby on December 24, 1929, daughter of the late John VanOrden and Madlyn (Hauser) Sweet,
and lived in Shelton since she was 11 years old. She worked as a bookkeeper for eight years at the Derby Senior Citizen
Center before retiring in 1996. She was also employed at the former Star Pin and Phillips Medical Corp. Jean was a
longtime member of the Derby and Shelton Senior Citizen Centers, The Hubbell Historical Society, the Auxiliary of the
Samson WWII Vets in Geneva, NY, and the USS Basilian AG 68 Association.
She is the beloved mother of John Osborn and his wife Ann, Carol Jean Radovich and her husband Robert, and Mary Sue
Mendez and her husband David. She also leaves eight loving grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and her nieces
Melanie Williams, Karen Ryan, and Susan Ryan. She is predeceased by her sister Carol Ryan and her stepfathers Thomas
Connors and Anson Proper.
Friends may greet her family on Saturday from 10 to 11 AM in the Riverview Funeral Home 390 River Road Shelton. A
Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM in the funeral home. Her burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery Ansonia. At the
