The Life of RICHARD DWAYNE BISHOP

Richard “Dick” Bishop, 69, was born May 23, 1947 in Polk City, the son of Jacob and Mary (Reed) Bishop. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family Friday, May 27, 2016.

Dick is survived by his loving wife, Ginny Bishop; daughters, Melissa Bishop, Kathie Bishop (Gary Grieves) and Jody (Patrick) White; his son and his family; eight grandchildren; sister, Tommie Ann (Terry) Young and two other sisters; other loving relatives and many special friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Kaidence Richard Cooper; sister, Loretta Barnes and his brother, Bob Reed.

Dick had a passion for the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was a NASCAR fan, and you could always find him cheering on Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt. Jr. Dick was a hard worker and dedicated to all that he put his mind to. He was loved by so many, and above all else he treasured time spent with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. Dick was naturally a car enthusiast, which went hand in hand with his many dedicated years working as an automotive technician. He most recently worked at Hi-Crest Auto, Inc. in Creston from 1996 until 2002, and upon moving back to Des Moines, he worked at McCalley Mechanics from 2002 until 2006 before retiring due to his illness.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the funeral home with inurnment to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
