The Life of Kimyata D. Cooper
Kimyata (Coop) D. Cooper, Jr., BSW, 34, went home to be with the Lord on May 18, 2016.Born October 10, 1981 at Akron City Hospital to Kimyata D. Cooper, Sr. and Darlene Cooper. He attended Chapel Hill Christian Academy and Akron Public Schools, graduating from Kenmore High School. He accepted Christ at an early age and had a good relationship with God.Kimyata followed in his mother''s footsteps entering the field of social work and graduated with honors from the University of Akron (Wayne College) May 14, 2016 with a Bachelor''s degree in Social Work.Although he completed his internship requirements at the Salvation Army, he continued to volunteer his services to help the community because he loved working with people. Signing BSW after his name was something he was very proud of. He was accepted into the U of A, Social Work Master''s program for Fall 2016.He was an avid sports fan, excelling at swimming, football, baseball, and basketball. His favorite team was the Los Angeles Lakers. When he wasn''t playing or watching sports, he was "kicking Knowledge" to anyone who would listen and he enjoyed debating controversial topics.He was an activist and advocated on behalf of a number of causes he felt were important. Spending time with his family and friends was important to him and he enjoyed laughing and making others laugh. He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Robert Tolbert, Jr. and Gerald Cooper; grandmother, Loretta Cooper; aunt, Robin D. Tolbert; and brother, Steven Darnell Cooper.He leaves to cherish his memory his fiancé, Elizabeth Bates and her three sons, whom he treated as his own; daughters, Kenyana and Naomi Ray Cooper; son, Kimyata D. Cooper, III; father, Kimyata D. Cooper, Sr.; mother, Darlene (Seymour) Beecher; stepfather, Charles (Kelli) L. Ford; grandmother, Lorethia Tolbert all of Akron; grandfather, Jeff (Sapora) James; sister, Lakesha D. Cooper; aunts, Kendra Cooper, Kimberly Karrem and Carolyn Bland-Boakye, all of Akron, Gloria Jean (Broderick) Norris and Frances James of Florida.; uncles, John Westry, Lonnie (Sue) Westry, Sr., Kenneth Gerald Cooper, Henry Knight Jr., all of Akron; and Thomas (Sarah) James, Milton and Fred James of Florida., one niece, Janely Montanna Carswell of Akron; mentor, Pastor Eugene Wilson, and a host of other relatives and friends.Celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 7 p.m. at Stewart and Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, Ohio 44307; Pastor Eugene Wilson eulogizing. Interment Mount Peace Cemetery. Friends may visit at the chapel from 6 p.m. until the time of service.
