The Life of HAZEL MAE GORDON
Hazel Mae Gordon, 75, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2016, at Mercy Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines, with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. A private burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Hazel was born in Iowa City, IA on July 31, 1940, to Walter and Viola Herberger. She relocated to Des Moines where she raised her family and spent 38 years working in Patient Accounts at Mercy Medical Center. She loved to do word searches, hook rugs, watch her favorite TV shows, and spend time with her children and grandchildren. There was never a time when Hazel didn’t like to eat out and enjoy an occasional Dairy Queen visit.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Gordon, Sr.; children, Ronda (Oxley) Carlson, Craig Oxley, Jennifer (Skees) Hauser, and Elizabeth Gordon; step-children, Paul Gordon, Jr. and Pam (Gordon) Merino; grandchildren, McKenzie Hale, Micheala Hale, Malcomb Byrd, and Caleb Hauser; step-grandchildren, Josh Gordon, David Merino, and Paula Merino; as well as her great-grandchildren, Ra’Shawn Ryan and King Suhr.
Hazel was preceded in death by her biological parents, Walter Herberger and Viola Stanley; adoptive mother, Alice B. Webb; brother, Glenn Herberger; step-son, David Gordon; and step-grandchildren, Zach Dolan, Rachel Dolan, and Chad Leto.
