The Life of Nickolas Benjamin Timpe

Nickolas lived a blessed life, and grew up the youngest of eight on the family homestead outside of Almont, ND. He was instilled with the value of hard work from his older siblings, and graduated high school during the Great Depression. Nick had many stories from working his way through college, including losing everything he owned, as well as his job, when the local hotel burned down. After graduating, he became a professional electrical engineer and led a successful career. He married the love of his life, and raised a family in Philadelphia, PA.

Family in North Dakota

The Timpes had a large family, and when they moved to North Dakota they made their start in a 12 by 20 foot homestead shack. The family worked hard together to expand their home and eventually move into town. The fourth document in the slideshow shows the story of Nick's parents.

Brothers

Nick was very close to his siblings. His older brother, Punch, caught and broke a wild horse, Blazes, for Nick. Punch gave him the horse with the understanding that if Nick ever smoke or drank, the horse would be taken away. Nick was so excited about Blazes that he thought it was all a dream, and every time he woke that night, he ran to the window to see Blazes in the moonlight. One day, Blazes saved Nick's life. During one North Dakota blizzard, there was a complete white-out and Nick could not find his way home. Blazes' natural instinct brought them back to the barn.

Grandfather

Nickolas is my grandfather, and has always been an inspiration to me. His hard work ethic, success in the face of adversity, loyalty to family, good storytelling, and faith in his saviour Jesus Christ all made him a remarkable man. One of his favorite Scripture passages is in John chapter 14, where Christ tells his disciples "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you with me that you also may be where I am." It is because of my grandfather's trust in Jesus, the perfect life that Christ lived on our behalf, his death to satisfy God's wrath against our sins, and his resurrection from the dead that I have confidence that my grandfather is in that place that Christ prepared for him. I look forward to seeing him again one day.
