The Life of Kenneth Paul Pitts

Kenneth “Pete” Pitts, Olathe, Ks, went fishing the evening of Monday, February 22, 2016. At the age of 91 1/2, by the light of a beautiful moon, he quietly snuck out the window of the Good Samaritan Center, commandeered a truck and boat then set sail for the lake. He landed a large crappie but realizing it was time to let go, he let it swim peacefully away.
Born on September 15th, 1924 in Fort Scott, Ks, to Arthur H. and Nola Inman Pitts, Pete grew up with his brothers and sisters, tending the farm, always there to help out family or friends. He attended school in the Fort Scott area until 8th grade. He worked on farms, followed the wheat harvest and unable to enlist because of a bad ear, went to California and worked in the shipyards. He then worked for the Frisco Railroad and later Charlie Curth Construction until his retirement. Pete was fond of playing pool, fishing in area lakes and was always there to help others. For the last 30+ years you could see him walking along the road at Lake Olathe with one of his faithful companions, Wolf then Lucky and then his only friend that didn't talk back to him Jack the dog.
He married Pansy Fuller on March 19, 1949. He and his late wife are survived by his three daughters Marilyn Pitts, Portland,OR, Peggy Pitts, Phoenix, AZ and Beverly Winters, Olathe, Ks (Butch); his granddaughter Holly Nitz (Eli), grandson Aaron (Erin), grandson Forrest, great-granddaughters Hayley, Miranda, Emily, Angel & Vera, great-grandsons Florenzio, Desmend and Samuel, and Jack the dog. He is also survived by his brother Calvin, Fort Scott, Ks and his many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Pansy and his sisters, Helen Hood, Josephine Michael, Grace Buford, Rowena Hines and Juanita Schroder and his brothers Jim, John, Harold and Joseph Eldon Pitts and half-brothers, Dave and Ed Lusk.
