The Life of RICHARD LEE OXENFORD

Richard “Rich” Lee Oxenford, 83, was born August 8, 1932 in Lake City, Iowa, the son of Leo “Ray” and Vivian (Brugger) Oxenford. He passed away peacefully with family by his side Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Trinity Center at Luther Park.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 6th at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 7th, also at Hamilton’s, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Rich served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. During his working career, he was a farmer at one time, and also held a managerial position at Central Warehouse in Des Moines. Rich loved camping, trapshooting, fishing, motorcycles, and playing cards. He was a kind man and always knew just the right thing to say to make a person feel better.

Rich is survived by his sons, Paul (Lisa), Steve (Paula), Jake (Sara); daughters, Lori (Hari) Mangalapalli, Kimberly Oxenford, and Kathryn (Brian) Backwelder; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan; parents, Leo and Vivian; sisters, Pat and Kathy; and brother, Donald. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a future designation.
