Mrs. Sarah Walton, one of the old settlers ot Johnson county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gardner, in Monticello township, Sunday, at the age of 84 years. The funeral was held from the Gardner home Tuesday and was conducted by Rev. Nelson A. Shedd, of this city.

SARAH C. WALTON.

Sarah Chambers was born in New Jersey. May 18, 1822.

At fifteen she was converted and united with the M. E. church. Moved with her parents to Owens county, Indiana in 1837 where her parents died a few years later. She was married to Wm. Harrison about 1852 and moved with him to Pleasant Plains, Iowa in 1858 where her husband died the same year.

 In 1860 she was married to S. V. Walton, who had three small children, whom she cared for and reared with honor and respect. They lived on a farm near Leon, Iowa until 1874 then moved to Summer county, Kansas, near the present site of Mayfield. She assisted in organizing a Sunday school and the Methodist Episcopal church in her house which became the preachers home.  In 1893 they, moved to Oklahoma near Lament, again the M. E. church organized a class in her house and it again became the preacher's home.

 In 1895 she moved to Kansas City, Kansas and while hanging out her washing she received a lightning shock which effected her mind and as time passed she grew worse. In the spring of 1899 she moved to Holliday, Kansas; while there she had a severe spell  of fever which left her nearly prostrate in both mind and body.

In 1900 she moved to Olathe and soon became helpless and  remained so until her death. During the last two years she was unable to talk as tio express her pains and wishes. The last seven years of her life was in the home of her step-daughter  Alice J. Gardner.

She left a husband and one sister, Jane Rader of Mayfield, Kansas and many friends to mourn  her loss. She lived a constant conscientious Christian and while she suffered much during her long illness she passed away quietly and peacefully, June 24, 1906. Eighty-four years, one month and seven days old. The funeral was held Tuesday at the home of Mr. Gardner six miles northwest of Olathe and was conducted by Rev. N. A Shedd, who officiated for Rev. B. V. Maloney who could not be present.
