A very brief mention was made last of the death of grandfather John A Wliitcomb, which occurred on Thursday morning just before the hour of going to press. As we stated lats week, he has been in poor health for a long time, to this add the infirmities of old age, which together has kept him almost constantly contained  to his room for mounhs, and amidst the many sentiments of regret that twere expressed on the announcement of his death all expressed  themselves as expecting it. Mr. Whitcomb was one if our oldest citizens. He came to this county in 1859, and located near Olathe.

He was born at Alslead, New Hampshire, in 1801, making him near the time of his death nearly 81 vears of age. He was twice married. Bereaved of his first wife years ago when but two children were bom, one of them Mrs. Elizabeth Davis, died in this city a few years ago. The other Mrs. Almyra Foot, is now a resident of Newport, New Hampshire. His second wife survives him although very old and feeble. Beside  her he leaves behind him his children, Mrs.. J. M. Giflen aud Mrs. Dr. Beach. of this city aud Mrs. Dr. Doud of Ft. Scott.

Mr, Whitcomb was a man universally beloved by all. May his ashes rest in peace till the last trump shall call us before the judgment bar of God.
