The Life of Hester Ann Stafford

ESTER ANN STAFFORD.

The death angel has been busy in this community recently and the last to answer to his summons to another world was Mrs. Ester Ann Stafford, who passed away at the residence of her niece, Mrs. Angeline Carter, East Park street, Olathe, on Wednesday, January 24, at 8- o'clock a. m.

Mrs. Stafford was born In Union county, Ohio, 81 years ago, and after her marriage she lived at Tipton, Iowa, for some time before she took up her residence with her niece, Mrs. Carter, with whom she has lived for 20 years. Mrs. Stafford was well known and had a wide circle of friends, by whom she was much loved and respected.

he evidently had a premonition of her coming end, as on Monday of last week after a conversation with the pastor of the Congregational church, who was calling at the house, she asked her grand-nephew, Will Carter, if there would be any objection to the pastor's coming the next day and administering the rite of baptism and the sacrament. On being told that certainly there would be none, she arranged for these ceremonies and on Tuesday afternoon Rev. Elledge administered these rites, and on Wednesday morning, January 17, she was stricken with paralysis which resulted in her transition on Wednesday, the 24th.

She had also sent away a number of little things to friends and relatives and she also obtained the wish she had often expressed "that she might die before Angeline," her niece, Mrs. Carter, who at the present writing lies unconscious and is not expected to live the day (Wednesday) out.

The only direct descendant of Mrs. Stafford living is a grandson living in Iowa, who will be unable to be present at her funeral, which will probably take place on Friday. Later: Mrs. Angeline Carter died this (Wednesday) evening at 5:30.
