The Life of John Blaisdell Phelps Jr
John Phelps, of Los Angelos, California, a son of Mrs. Elizabeth Phelps, of West Park street, died at his home on Tuesday of last week, of fatty degeneration of the heart. His body was brought to Olathe and interred in the family lot in the cemetery here Tuesday. The deceased was born February 15th, 1838, in Colborne, Canada, but had lived nearly all his life in the United States, and since he arrived at manhood's age has been engaged as a conductor on various railroads, and in mining enterprises in New Mexico.
He was a Union soldier, a second lieutenant in Company E., 15 Illinois cavalry, and served with distinction under Gen Budford all through the war. A number of old soldiers attended the funeral services.
