The Life of Samuel B McPherson

OBITUARY.

Again we are called upon to mourn the loss of one of our progressive and time honored citizens. Mr. Samuel McPherson, who died at his home in Spring Hill township, May 8, 1907, after a long illness. Mr. McPherson was born if Indiana county, Pennsylvannia on August 18, 1834. He was married to Miss Martha Hudson February 18, 1858, and to this union were born five children, three sons and two daughters of which one son, Ira McPherson of Spring Hill township and Mrs. Pete Murphy of Gardner, are still living.

He professed his faith in Christ and became a member of Gilgall Presbyterian church in Pennsylvania at the age of 18 years. After his marriage he moved to Kansas about 1870 and united with the Presbyterian church of Olathe, until a few years ago when he transferred his membership to the Gardner Presbyterian church. He took an active part in the pubic affairs In this county. He was elected to the office of county commissioner of Johnson county in 1891 and served in that capacity for six years and proved a very efficient officer. He became a member of the grange in 1873 by joining Lone Elm Grange No. 152, and was actively connected with all the grange co-operative enterprises up to the time he was stricken with disease. His decease will be mourned in grange .circles and by his hosts of friends.
