Grace Erdine Smith

Grace E. Smith. 86, of Gardner, Kan., passed away Sunday, October 28, 2007 in Meadwobrook Rehab Hospital in Gardner. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, 913-856-7111, with burial at Olathe Memorial Cemetery in Olathe. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., before the funeral. Memorial contributions may be made to the Meadowbrook Rehab Hospital. Grace was born Spetember 29, 1921 in Brownsville, Texas to Hugh and Trinidad (Rubio) Deven. She graduated high school in Brownsville. She was married to Carl H. Smith. Grace worked as a sales clerk for the Jones & Sons Shoe Store in Kansas City, Mo. She lived in Kansas City, Mo., for 50 years before moving to a retirement community in Leavenworth, Ks. She had been at Meadowbrook since 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl, her parents, her son Melvin George Smith, and her brother George Deven. Grace is survived by her son John Smith and wife Debbie, of Olathe; brothers Mike Deven of Gary, Ind., Henry Deven of Brownsville, Texas and Melvin Deven of Bremerton, Wash; and two grandchildren Johnny Smith, Leavenworth and Cathy Smith, Scottsdale, Ariz.
