The Life of William D Moore

DEATH OF WILLIAM MOORE

William Moore was born in the town of Clare, Ireland, September 29, 1819 and died in Olathe, Kansas, January 31, 1905, having lived 85 years, 4 months and two days. His early life was spent in Ireland. At the age of 20 he crossed the waters and settled in Boone county, Ill. In 1859 he moved to Kansas where he lived for 2 years, but soon returned to Illinois. In 1866 he came to Kansas the second time and located in Johnson county. Since that time his home has been continuously within 10 miles of Olathe with the exception of 4 years spent in Anderson county. He was a stone mason by trade and many of the older stone buildings of our city were erected by his hands.

He was married three times. His first wife was Mary Jane Taylor whom he married in 1845 and who died in 1866. She bore him six children five of whom are living today. His second wife was Elizabeth Edwards to whom he was married in 1868 and who died in 1877. She was the mother of one daughter who still survives. His third and present wife was Josephine West to whom he was married in 1880. She also is the mother of one child, a son who lives to mourn the loss of his father today.

His religious life was beyond question. In his infancy he was christened in the Presbyterian church and later he became a member of that organization and continued loyal for several years. He never brought his membership from Illinois but always supported tbe local Presbyterian church here. He was all his life a constant Bible student and often expressed his confidence in God and his readiness to go whenever the summons should come. His life was an exceedingly eventful one; he lived longer than the time allotted to most people. His last years were filled with suffering and it is with sorrow but without regret we give him up to the hands of a loving and kind Heavenly Father. The funeral services were conducted at the family residence in Olathe by Rev. York, February 2, at 1 o'clock p. m., after which the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Olathe cemetery.
