The Life of Thomas Jefferson Norris

Thomas J. Norris died Thursday, January 20, 1898, of pneumonia, aged sixty-three years. He was born in Brown county, Ohio, January 20, 1835, and moved to Iowa in 1855. Coming to Kansas in 1857, he remained until the spring of 1861, when he returned to Iowa and enlisted in Company G, Third Regiment, Iowa Infantry, serving in that command for three years. In 1867 he was married to Miss Abigail Winnigar and came to Olathe in 1868. His wife died in 1872, and in January, 1876, he was married to Miss Abigial McClintock who, with three children, survives him. He was an honest, upright citizen and had the respect and confidence of everybody. For a number of years he owned and operated a cigar factory in Olathe, but on account of bad health he was obliged to discontinue the business. He was a member of Franklin Post No. 68. G. A. R. The funeral services were conducted Saturday, January 22, by Rev. A. V. Stout at the residence, and his remains were laid away in the cemetery according to the ritual of the Grand Army. The bereaved family have the sympathy of a host of friends in this community.
