lIn our last issue we told of the Of Mr. John J. Russell, Spring Hill township, seven miles Southwest Olathe: The funeral service was held Thursday at one o''''clock at the Christian church, Olathe, the service being conducted by Rev. Scrivner. and relatives in 50 automobiles accompanied the body from home to the church. It took ten automobiles to bring over members the Odd Fellows Lodge at Gardner. 65 automobiles were in the procession which followed the body from the church to the cemetery

John Jordan Russell, son of Thomas and Jane Russell, was born Oct 8, 1858, at Athens. Illinois. At age of 16 he united with the Christian church at Eureka, Kansas. Previously he had come with his parents to Johnson County; where the home was made. At the age of 18 went to California, and resided 16 years.

He was united in marriage to Sarah  E. Gift, who died a few years after the marriage, leaving two daughters, Bessie and Jessie.

Some years later Mr. Russell came back to Johnson County and on May 11, 1896 was united in marriage to Miss Cora McCaig. . To this union were born four boys and one girl, all living.  They are Leonard, Howard, Joe and Eva. The two daughters surviving are Mrs. Wes Mayfield, and Mrs. Ralph King. Two sisters survive, Mrs. Sarah Kessler, South of Olathe, and Mrs. Jamima Peed, Iola.   There are also two brothers, Charles, Iola, and Alexander, Canada. One aunt survives, Mrs. Brown, Burlingame, Kansas.

Mr. Russell - although he was ever addressed thus, as the salutation was "John" - was among our most substantial citizens, the soul of honor and integrity, and absolutely above reproach. No man stood higher among fellow men. He had the confidence of his neighbors, and in no better way could you determine his standing than the way in which neighbors and friends came in to help during his illness during four or five weeks. John Russell was devoted to his wife and children and the steadfast devotion of this family to their father was so marked as to be an'''' example to the entire community.
